Awareness: is the state or ability to perceive, to feel, or to be conscious of events, objects, or sensory patterns. In this level of consciousness, sense data can be confirmed by an observer without necessarily implying understanding. More broadly, it is the state or quality of being aware of something. In biological psychology, awareness is defined as a human’s or an animal’s perception and cognitive reaction to a condition or event.
As a trusted adviser to my clients all over the country and Canada, my main function is to assist that person or group to feel better about their lives and/or business while they are working with me and to have achieved a higher level of satisfaction in their lives after working with me. While trust and willingness to be open and transparent are extremely important to facilitate progress I have come to understand that awareness is the key to success for most of us when it comes to getting our maximum return on investment from coaching, consulting and mentoring or even just enjoying our daily experiences of life more deeply.
Below are three ways to increase your level of awareness to deepen your life experience.
Pay attention to Nature. The sunlight on a plant, the squirrel looking at you through your window, or the smell of the earth after a rain shower. Everything in Nature evokes an ancient calling in us. It takes us back to a simpler age where our ancestors were a part of the natural algorithm of life. Today we are generally separate from Nature on a daily basis and many of us hardly take notice. We get into our cars in our garage, drive to work, park in a garage and spend the day in an office and drive home. Just being outside and observing Nature around us will increase our awareness and reduce stress through grounding. Engage in some sort of physical fitness routine daily. The endorphins released through physical exertion increase the brains ability to solve problems and you actually get smarter according to a brain study done by the Franklin Institute. Amazing, you get smarter on your daily run than sitting in front or your computer in the office! Tell your boss you are going for a run to solve the problem he just handed you!
Hire a coach to hold you accountable to your highest ideals of success for you in your life and profession. Having someone to meet with, whose sole purpose is to check-in and challenge you to reach higher for your own growth in life is invaluable. I know firsthand about this. I could not be nearly as successful as I am now if I did not have an excellent coach to push me out of my comfort zone. There is no growth going on in the comfort zone! Having someone that is dedicated to seeing you become your best self can allow you to see any limiting beliefs, negative self-talk and increase your commitment to your plan for success. These ongoing conversations can create the ultimate level of self-awareness and be the difference between feeling stuck and having amazing personal, professional, relationship and monetary growth.
I have designated 2014 as the year of commitment for myself. I am committed to increasing my self -awareness and leading the life I want to live. That means I have to face my fears, limiting beliefs, and let go of things that no longer serve me so I can move my life to another level. Will you join me?

P.S. As I was finishing this post two Red Tail Hawks flew by my office window screaming at each other in mock battle. I just spent ten minutes outside watching them and getting my awareness lesson of the day!
