The joy I experience with each person or organization I work with comes from the fact that people are focused on creating change in their lives and businesses with each session. There is no “coaching relationship” if both parties are not committed to some sort of behavioral change toward what the person or organization desires. Sounds reasonable, right?
On the whole, we put more time and effort into making vacation plans, business plans, and even party plans than we do our own life plans. Let’s keep making those plans, but let’s put our life planning ahead of them this year.
Here are a few simple tips on how to sustain the excitement for change you desire in your life and business for 2014. It begins with creating a mindful plan for your life. I use the three-step process outlined below.
Mission: I own my shortcomings and list them. I also list the things I cannot control (think S.W.O.T. analysis strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) I then write a paragraph with a few brief bullets on what success looks like for me.
Snapshot of My Life: I write a one-page, future view of my life in one year, usually in December, but you can use whatever month you like. Some of my clients use their birthday, for example. I outline everything from my workout routine, to my hobbies, how I spend my time and money, and who I spend them with and on.
Then I write a full-on life plan, which incorporates how I want to be in all the roles I play – Spiritual, Husband, Brother, Son, Colleague, Coach, Friend, etc. I follow that with a list of priorities, which leads to action steps to achieve them.
Review. Repeat. I like to review my plan daily; yes, daily. It takes no more than 5 minutes to do yet this is where we tend to disconnect from the good work we do on our plan. Creating a new habit to make the plan have meaning on a daily basis will change your life!
I have seen this work for so many people and now it is our turn. If you would like to know more, I am happy to offer a complimentary, no strings attached 30 minute coaching session with you on how to get started, address barriers to success, and create sustainability to have your best year ever! Don’t hesitate, set it up now here.
It is my hope that this year and into January 2015 there will be a flood of success stories being shared of increased happiness, profits, and overall higher levels of well-being for you in life and business!
Cheers for a Great 2014!
